Bank lends its support to tourney again



THE AmBank Group continued their support for the SportExcel International Junior golf championship and the Malaysian Junior Grand Finals.

AmBank Group public affairs head Syed Anuar Syed Ali said they were pleased to be part of the events.

“Once again, we are pleased to come on board to sponsor the AmBank Group Crest Link SportExcel Malaysian Junior Grand Finals and International Junior golf championship.

“As a strong supporter of sports, we would like to lend our support in developing grassroots golf tournament and this championshops provides a perfest platfom for our vision,” said Syed Anuar after handing over the sponsorship to SportExcel executive director Teng Mui Ngee.

Golf: No surprises in Junior Grand Finals


IT was the usual suspects who dominated the AmBank Group Crest Link SportExcel Malaysian Junior Grand Finals at Rahman Putra Golf Club yesterday.
Nur Durriyah Damien, who had an impressive three-under 69 on the first day, continued her stellar performance to shoot an even 72 for a 141 total to take the Girls' Under-20 title.

Diana Tham finished second with a four-over 148 while defending champion Isza Fariza Ismail was third with a seven-over 151.


Nur Durriyah said her confidence soared after playing so well in the first round.

"I really was not sure if I could pull it off on the first day, especially with so many top class players like Isza (Fariza Ismail) and Diana (Tham) in the field," said Nur Durriyah, who with Isza Fariza, in the national back-up squad.

The Boys' Under-20 was a close affair. Low Khai Loon with a two-day 147, snatched the title from Kenneth De Silva and Chan Tuck Soon who both had 148s.


"I learnt from my mistakes from the first round and managed to play slightly better today (yesterday, finding the fairway with more consistency," said Khai Loon, who is looking forward to playing in the International Junior Golf Championship today.

Boys' Under-15 favourite Paul San raised his game to win the title with a two-day nine-over 151 total.

Low Khai Jei, with a 10-over 154, was second and Muhammad Asyraf Roslan (160) finished third.


The Girls' Under-15 title went to Ardilla Ali with a six-over 150 with second place going to Genevieve Ling (156) and Sarfina Vinota (165) taking third place.

The players from the AmBank Group Crest Link SportExcel Malaysian Junior Grand Finals will continue to compete in the International Junior Golf Championship today.

RESULTS -- Boys' Under-20: 147 Low Khai Loon 74-73; 148 Chan Tuck Soon 74-74, Kenneth De Silva 74-74

Under-15: 153 Paul San 77-76; 154 Low Khai Jei 77-77; 160 Muhammad Asyraf Roslan 82-78

Under-12: 151 Aaerishna Shahshty 75-76; 156 Ryan Wong 79-77; 161 Sim You Jin 85-76

Girls' Under-20: 141 Nur Durriyah Damien 69-72; 148 Diana Tham 74-74; 151 Isza Fariza Ismail 73-78

Under-15: 150 Ardilla Ali 77-73; 156 Genevieve Ling 81-75; 165 Sarfina Vinota 84-81

Under-12: 176 Kelly Kan 92-84; 177 Siti Zulaikha Shaari 94-83; 192 Chong Yong 101-91

130 pemain sertai golf remaja SportExcel

LEBIH 130 orang pemain golf remaja dari seluruh dunia akan menyertai Kejohanan Golf Remaja Antarabangsa SportExcel dan Pusingan Akhir Golf Remaja SportExcel Malaysia 2010 anjuran Yayasan Kecemerlangan Sukan Malaysia (SportExcel) dengan kerjasama Kumpulan AmBank bermula hari ini hingga 16 Disember.

Pengarah Kumpulan Hal Ehwal Awam AmBank, Syed Anuar Syed Ali berkata AmBAnk berbesar hati dapat bertindak sebagai penaja kepada kejohanan berkenaan sejak lima edisi lalu yang akan diadakan di Kelab Rahman Putra Malaysia.
“Sebagai penyokong pembangunan sukan golf di negara ini, Kumpulan AmBank percaya kedua-dua kejohanan ini akan memberi pendedahan kepada pemain golf remaja bagi membolehkan mereka mencapai peringkat lebih tinggi pada masa depan,” katanya dalam sidang media selepas majlis penyerahan cek bernilai RM26,860 kepada SportExcel, semalam.

Hadir sama, Pengarah Eksekutif SportExcel, Teng Mui Ngee dan pemain golf remaja tempatan yang akan menyertai pertandingan berkenaan.

Teng berkata lebih pemain dari Thailand, Amerika Syarikat, Afrika Selatan, dan Jepun akan menyertai dan memberi cabaran kepada peserta tempatan dalam kejohanan antarabangsa berkenaan.

“Saya berharap kejohanan seperti ini dapat diteruskan serta diadakan dengan lebih kerap kerana jika diperhatikan, kesemua pemain golf peringkat kebangsaan seperti Kenneth De-Silva, dan Chan Tuck Soon bermula dalam kejohanan yang dianjurkan SportExcel,” katanya.

Teng juga melahirkan rasa terima kasih kepada ibu bapa yang memberi sokongan kepada anak mereka untuk bergiat dalam sukan golf kerana kejohanan ini pasti tidak dapat dianjurkan tanpa sokongan mereka.
